The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won two. Hanks was later seen as Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer animated animated film Toy Story (1995). The following year Hanks made his directorial debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) that chronicles the demise and growth of a popular 1960s group. He also played the role of a producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and the majority of critics agreed that Hanksrole made him one of the top romantic comedy actors of his time.
