Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentary and analyses of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. She is the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency which is an education not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women in popular culture narratives. In addition, she works to bring awareness to the harassment and targeted attack on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is determined to break down stereotypes that are in the popular culture. Sarkeesian has a degree in social thought and politics from York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaking. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by issues of gender identity and feminist thought. As a student, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website. The ambitious lady planned to launch an internet program that would examine the role of gender in games however, she was also the subject of an online harassment campaign. But the assault did have been a hindrance, rather it was a boost to her determination to be a feminist media critic. Numerous awards have been awarded to her as a way of acknowledging all of the contribution she has made. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This educational nonprofit explores women's representations in pop culture narratives.
